Happy New Year’s everyone!
I have been asked to “take notes” as to how I encounter a new data set. Although I have several projects underway in various stages, Unfortunately, I do not have a good example of geotagged data with sufficient variables, until now!
In 2017, my family lived in Central Florida, at the time of Hurricane Irma. After the storm, I volunteered with the Red Cross, at their storm relief headquarters in Orlando, Florida. I joined the Red Cross GIS team later that year. I was sent an Excel spreadsheet back in 2017 containing records of storm damage to residential structures. This is the record of that inquiry.
Disclosure: I love data, statistics, and analysis as much as anyone, but behind the records are people’s lives. Many homes were destroyed and over 100 people lost their lives. To that end, I will be removing all identifying address columns, to protect privacy issues.
